We Walked with Wild Alaska Grizzlies in the Bush!

Take a hike with us among the Grizzlies deep in the bush of Katmai National Park. We took a bear viewing flight with Sasquatch Alaska Adventure, donned hip waders and started hiking into the bush. It didn’t take long to see a whole bunch of bears fishing in the river and coastal waters for Salmon. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list experience, and if you have a trip planned for Alaska, definitely save your coffee money for a while and DO THIS!

Don’t Kayak in Alaska UNLESS…….

Alaska, the wild and merciless beast! Picture this: We decided to take a trip there in August, fully aware that the rain gods were going to shower us with their blessings. So, I packed my trusty hiking mountain rain gear, thinking I was the ultimate rain warrior.

Now, I had signed up for an all-day cruise and kayaking adventure in the glorious Alaska Kenai Fjords National Park, courtesy of the aptly named “Sunny Cove Kayaking.” I couldn’t resist asking the guides if they ever saw sunshine up there. Their response? A hearty “RARELY!” Talk about slick marketing!

So there we were, paddling like champs for about 4 miles in the relentless downpour, navigating ice-filled glacier waters like we were auditioning for a survival reality show. The trip was a strange mix of beautiful scenery, epic adventure, and downright misery. I mean, my rain gear might as well have been a sieve!

But here’s the kicker: Would I do it again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat! Only next time, I’d be shelling out a small fortune on GORE-TEX rain gear, probably even throwing in a rain dance just for good measure. Watch the saga unfold in the below video as I battle the Alaskan elements! 😂🌧️🚣‍♂️

This was CRAZY! We got so000 CLOSE!!

Episode 5 of my Road Trip Alaska Series gets us into a Helicopter for the ride of a lifetime! Skimming over huge ice pinnacles on a giant glacier, landing on a glacier and drinking from its pure glacier pools, and picking blueberries on a mountaintop with views for days. It was CRAZY!!! This one you won’t want to miss!

A Glacier Landing on Denali! Alaska Road Trip Ep 3

Hi All! On our 18 day Alaska Road trip, we go for a flight into the heart of the Denali National park and meet the highest Mountain in North America, up close and personal. Road Tripping Alaska has been my bucket list destination and we tried to do the most epic excursions we could afford. Landing near Denali was on top of that list. Was it worth $355.00 a person? See for yourself! I personally WOULD do it again in a heartbeat!

Adventure Alaska (Ep 1) An Epic 18-Day Road Trip!

It’s been a dream for many years to finally see Alaska. So, after a year of planning, map viewing, line drawing, mileage figuring, re-mapping, and questioning my every decision, I pulled the trigger and booked everything myself from the airline, rental car, lodging, and excursions.

Fast forward to August 1, 2023 – touchdown in Anchorage, car rental secured, and off we went on an epic Alaskan road trip for 18 days! 🚗🌄

Glaciers that made our jaws drop, wildlife encounters that felt straight out of Nat Geo, and landscapes that blew our minds around every single turn in the road – Alaska exceeded every wild expectation. 🐾🏞️

Alaska Road Trip-It’s Happening!

Since I was a teenager, and after seeing a TV special on Alaska, I’ve wanted to see this magical place for myself. Years ago, my Aunt and Uncle sold their home for big RV and spent over a month traveling from California through the Yukon to Alaska. After hearing their stories, I knew THAT was how I wanted to see Alaska. I wanted to head into the interior and spend quality time with the people who live there. Fast forward to age (almost) 63 and I’m finally getting to Alaska. As I would love to do an entire month traveling around in an RV like my aunt and uncle, my husband Alex isn’t retired yet so I had to scale the trip down a bit. I couldn’t wait any longer… I have to go NOW. It takes a whole 5 days just to get to Alaska by auto from California (one way) so we decided to fly to Anchorage and rent a car.

Why not rent an RV? Well, I did toss that around, but I decided it was easier for us to rent a Camry (fuel efficient) and get lodging. Plus, I didn’t want the hassle of breakdowns in a rented rig, and a whole host of things that comes with driving a large home on wheels. Trust me, we know! I know, it could all work out just fine, but I didn’t want to take the risk. Maybe one day we will take our own rig way up North.

Why not a cruise? Cruise ships just ain’t our thing. If it’s yours, more power to ya! We will get our fill of being on the water with the four boat tours I have planned (including the ferry).

So, here I am just a few weeks away from when I get to book this adventure with lodging, excursions, ferry rides, rental car, air fair, as well as making lists of what to pack, where to eat, other things to do and see. Alaska is a BIG STATE and the area of Alaska where there are roads is a small portion of the state. However, this area is STILL BIG and to see every single thing would take you a couple of months, maybe more! Heck, I haven’t seen everything in my home state of California and I’ve lived here for years! 🙂

In the posts to come, I will detail all of my planning for the next year, how I go about my booking, who has helped me and so on. Maybe you can plan your dream trip to Alaska using my notes. Believe me, it takes a village to plan this adventure but you don’t have to re-invent the wheel. Just make some modifications to fit you on a wheel that works!

My first thing to do was join a few Face Book Alaska Travel groups. In these groups you will find a gold mine of information and advice. I befriended a gal in Michigan who just came back from her epic road trip just like the one I have planned. She has been so kind to send me soo soo much information, even her epic color coded spread sheet itinerary that is detailed down to the hour! Thank you Suzan Donato Hicks in Michigan! I’m using her wheel with a few of my own modifications.

Here is how our trip looks at this moment.
